Program Description:

This one-year, two semester program is designed to prepare students with the knowledge and skills required to assist veterinary professionals in the practice of veterinary science. It also supports opportunities to work within other applied animal sciences, such as, animal shelters, research facilities, farm animal settings, grooming salons, wildlife establishments, and zoos. Students learn a variety of basic laboratory techniques to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of domestic animals in addition to clerical and administrative skills required in an animal facility.

Admission Requirements:

·         OSSD or equivalent

·         Grade 12 English (C or U)

·         Grade 11 or 12 Biology (C or U)

Should the number of qualified applicants exceed the number of available places, applicants will be selected on the basis of their proficiency in English, and biology.

Career:

Become a Veterinary Assistant. With our two-semester certificate program, you will gain the skills and knowledge you need to pursue a career in animal care. You will learn about animal health and disease, animal behavior, handling and general care, dog grooming, and basic laboratory procedures. Veterinary Assistants are employed in a variety of animal care environments; these include veterinary clinics, animal shelters, pet stores, grooming salons, and wildlife facilities.
