Program Description:

Working everyday to improve the health and happiness of surgical patients is a noble career path, and one that is in-demand, secure and valued. As an Anesthesia Assistant, you'll be a vital member of the surgical team – trusted, respected and needed.

If ensuring patients have a safe and secure surgical experience, and if working in an operating room with state-of-the-art equipment alongside talented colleagues excites you, then Fanshawe's Anesthesia Assistant Graduate Certificate program will get you on your way. You'll perform simulations in a brand new mock operating room, using the latest and most advanced equipment. You'll also complete clinical placements in London-area hospitals to prepare you for work as a valuable member of any hospital's anesthesia care team.

 

Advantages:

The Anesthesia Assistant Ontario College Graduate Certificate program is a 45-week program that trains students to become a valuable member of the anesthesia care team. This program offers a flexible delivery format allowing students to attend classes one day each week during the first two terms. The Anesthesia Assistant is a specially trained health professional that participates in the care of the surgical patient during general, regional, or local anesthesia under the immediate supervision of an anesthesiologist.


Admission Requirement:

ONE OF:
- Respiratory Therapy Ontario College Advanced Diploma with a current Certificate as a member of the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario (CRTO)
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree or Nursing Diploma with a current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario
AND
- 2,000 hours of work experience within the last three years as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Registered Nurse (RN)*
AND
Applicants are required to submit a resume and cover letter that includes details of work experience

Note:

  • *The 2,000 hours of work      experience within the last three years must have been completed in      critical care areas such as the operating room, intensive care unit (ICU),      coronary care unit (CCU) or post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) as      outlined by submitting a resume and cover letter

Career

Graduates of this program will find employment in hospitals and surgical clinics working primarily in the operating room but also in such areas as post-operative care areas, labour and delivery, emergency, and intensive care.
