Program Description:

 

The Fanshawe Business – Finance program is designed to give you the skills necessary to connect with your future clients and colleagues in the largest financial industry in Canada. You will develop the skills needed to work in the personal financial services sector, from customer service to wealth management and financial planning. In this program you will learn to work with clients, evaluate their needs and offer advice on personal financial management, tax and retirement planning, insurance, investments, and estate planning, as well as customer relations and providing products to clients. Available in a traditional in class format, with September and January admissions or 100% online.

Business - Finance (Co-op) is a two-year Ontario College Diploma program. This program is designed to develop the skills needed to work in the growing personal financial services sector, from customer service to wealth management and financial planning. Students will learn to work with clients, evaluating their needs and offer advice on personal financial management, tax and retirement planning, insurance, investments, and estate planning, as well as customer relations and providing product to clients. Qualified graduates will have completed all the educational requirements leading to the CFP® (Certified Financial Planner®) designation awarded by the Financial Planning Standards Council www.fpsc.ca. and the Registered Retirement Consultant® RRC® designation awarded by CIFP.

Students are also prepared to write the Canadian Securities Course® and Life Licensing Qualification Program examinations as prerequisites to securities and life insurance licensing. Students will also have completed the Mutual Funds Licensing course.

Admission Requirement:

OSSD with courses from the College (C), University (U),
University/College (M), or Open (O) stream WITH:
- Any Grade 12 English (C) or (U)
- Mathematics* ONE OF:
       - Any Grade 12 Mathematics (C) or (U)
       - Any Grade 11 Mathematics (C), (U), or (M)
          (Note: a minimum final grade of 60 required for any Grade 11 Mathematics course)
OR
Academic and Career Entrance Certificate (ACE)
OR 
Ontario High School Equivalency Certificate (GED) AND:
- Mathematics* ONE OF:
       - Any Grade 12 Mathematics (C) or (U)
       - Any Grade 11 Mathematics (C), (U), or (M)
          (Note: a minimum final grade of 60 required for any Grade 11 Mathematics course)
OR
Mature Applicant with standing in the required courses and grade stated above

Career

Graduates of the Business - Finance (Co-op) program are prepared to enter the financial services sector in many fields, including banking, credit management, wealth management, life insurance, investments and financial planning. Graduates are suited to a variety of entry-level positions or may advance into the following: sales representative, customer service representative, insurance advisor, investment advisor, financial planner or retirement planners.
