Program Description:

The Entrepreneurship program will provide insight into the challenges and rewards of entrepreneurship. You'll study aspects of marketing, finance, and market research, along with hands on experience with Quickbooks. It takes courage to put a business dream into practice. It also takes a plan. That's why you'll finish the program with a comprehensive business plan based on your business idea. Banks require a business plan when considering financing, and so does your idea if you want to succeed. You will also explore alternatives for starting a business or taking over a family firm, as well as financing options. Available in a traditional in-class format with September admission.

 

Advantages:

Business Fundamentals - Entrepreneurship is a one-year Ontario College Certificate program.  This customized program is designed specifically for the novice entrepreneur and will provide graduates with the knowledge required to plan, start and manage their own small business.  Through the program curriculum, students explore alternatives for starting a business, such as franchising and taking over the family firm, as well as financing options.  The Business Fundamentals -Entrepreneurship program gives students insight into the challenges and rewards of entrepreneurship and assist students in acquiring the skills for long-term management of the business and their development as entrepreneurs.  Under the supervision of a faculty advisor, students prepare a comprehensive business plan intended to help students launch their own business upon graduation.

 

Admission Requirement:

OSSD with courses from the College (C), University (U),
University/College (M), or Open (O) stream WITH:
- Any Grade 12 English (C) or (U)
- Mathematics* ONE OF:
   - Any Grade 12 Mathematics (C) or (U)
   - Any Grade 11 Mathematics (C), (U), or (M)
(Note: a minimum final grade of 60 required for any Grade 11 Mathematics course)
OR
Academic and Career Entrance Certificate (ACE)
OR 
Ontario High School Equivalency Certificate (GED) AND:
- Mathematics* ONE OF:
   - Any Grade 12 Mathematics (C) or (U)
   - Any Grade 11 Mathematics (C), (U), or (M)
(Note: a minimum final grade of 60 required for any Grade 11 Mathematics course)
OR
Mature Applicant with standing in the required courses and grade stated above

Note:

  • *Applicants who lack the      required Mathematics may still gain eligibility for admission by      completing appropriate prior upgrading

 

Career

Graduates may immediately pursue their own business venture as a new start-up, as a franchisee/franshisor, or may purchase an existing business.  They may instead begin their business career working in a small business and apply their entrepreneurial skills in various ways, including sales, operations and management.  The range of sectors for graduates will span retail, construction, real estate sales and property management, manufacturing and agribusiness.
