Program Description:

Making a real difference in the lives of children, teens and their families is an honourable career choice. With Fanshawe's Child and Youth Care (Fast Track) program, you'll learn a broad range of skills that will enable you to positively affect the lives of those in society who are the most vulnerable.

You'll learn from veteran instructors about family issues and children's emotional and behavioural challenges. As well, you'll learn about Special Education and Assistive Technology. You'll develop cutting-edge counselling skills, examine child abuse and neglect, mental health issues, familial structures, psychotherapy techniques, and many other child-centred issues and concerns. When you graduate, you'll have a dynamic and evolving range of skills that will allow you to work in a number of different fields such as group homes, correctional services, residential treatment centres, children's aid societies, boards of education, community resource centres and hospitals.

The fast track advanced diploma program is delivered in four, 15 week semesters which means students are ready to graduate after 16 months (at a full-time rate).

This program will also provide you with over 900 hours of real-world experience during the two unique field placement experiences, each in a setting working alongside trained professionals in the field. Your Fanshawe education will give you the necessary skills and experience to accept this rewarding and challenging career with confidence.
