Program Description:

If you're ready to focus your computer passion or hobby into a specialized and in-demand career, Fanshawe's Computer Systems Technician program is for you. IT professionals have never been more in-demand. Develop the skills needed to work in the exploding world of PC, networking and application support.

You'll focus your skills on the installation and configuration of microcomputer systems and networking equipment. These skills are in demand at virtually every medium-to-large business in every industry. Learn all about current operating systems including Microsoft and UNIX, and understand installation and configuration of web servers, database servers and mail servers as well as security basics. Build a network and develop the teamwork and communication skills necessary to be successful in the business world.

And when you graduate, you should have the knowledge and skills to test for certification as a Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), if you choose to do so. You may also choose to apply the knowledge gained to prepare and test for certifications in CompTIA's A+, Network+ and Security +, and Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA).

 

Advantages:

The Computer Systems Technician program is a two-year accredited Ontario College Diploma program which provides comprehensive training for students wishing to work in the high demand areas of workstation, server, application, network and security support. This program provides students the ability to think critically, solve problems and acquire new skills quickly. 

Under the guidance of expert faculty, combined with the use of leading edge labs, the program emphasizes the hands-on installation and configuration of workstations, servers and networking equipment.  Students will also be expertly trained in current operating systems from Microsoft as well as Linux.  The program also focuses in on the installation and configuration of web servers, database servers, mail servers, IT security, effective communication, problem solving and teamwork skills.

Upon completion of the program, and in addition to the highly valued Ontario College Diploma, graduates should have the knowledge and skills to take exams for the following certification, if they choose to do so: Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA). Graduates may also choose to apply the knowledge gained to prepare and test for other industry certifications, such as those offered for Microsoft, Linux and VMWare.

 

Admission Requirement:

OSSD with courses from the College (C), University (U),
University/College (M), or Open (O) stream WITH: 
- Any Grade 12 English (C) or (U) 
- Any Grade 11 or Grade 12 Mathematics* (C), (U), or (M) 
OR
Academic and Career Entrance Certificate (ACE)
OR
Ontario High School Equivalency Certificate (GED) AND: 
- Any Grade 11 or Grade 12 Mathematics* (C), (U), or (M) 
OR 
Mature Applicant with standing in the required courses stated above 

Note:

  • *Applicants who lack the      required Mathematics may still gain eligibility for admission by      completing appropriate prior upgrading.
