If you're passionate about helping people, Fanshawe's Human Services Foundation program can introduce you to the many career options in human and community services. It has never been more important to have a balanced education that helps give you the right skills and experience to succeed in a competitive job market.
As a student, you'll enjoy a combination of classwork, volunteer community field experience, and guest presentations from human services workers so that you can have an up-close view into this diverse and rewarding field. With all of this exposure, you can be sure that you'll be able to find the career that is right for you.
This program gives you excellent preparation – and extra consideration – if you are planning on entering any of Fanshawe's Human Services career programs like Child and Youth Care, Early Childhood Education, or Recreation and Leisure Services, among others. Advantages:
The Human Services Foundation program provides a broad education in understanding human behaviour and serves as a foundation for preparing the student to enter specific people helping career programs. Basic academic coursework relevant to human services and field experience in a human services setting combine to provide a comprehensive introduction to the field of helping.
Admission Requirement:
OSSD with courses from the College (C), University (U),
University/College (M), or Open (O) stream
OR
Academic and Career Entrance Certificate (ACE)
OR
Ontario High School Equivalency Certificate (GED)
OR
Mature Applicant with appropriate preparation
Note:
Admission to the Human Services Foundation program does not guarantee admission in a subsequent year to any College program. Successful completion of the Human Services Foundation program, however, does enable the student to be given additional consideration when applying for one of the following programs:
- Child and Youth Care
- Developmental Services Worker
- Developmental Services Worker (Accelerated)
- Early Childhood Education
- Early Childhood Education (Accelerated)
- Police Foundations
- Police Foundations (Accelerated)
- Recreation and Leisure Services
- Social Service Worker
Students who register in the Fanshawe College Human Services Foundation program in September 2018 and wish to apply to the Child and Youth Care or the Social Service Worker programs, must successfully complete their Human Services Foundation Ontario College Certificate with a minimum 2.0 GPA by April 30, 2019 in order to be eligible for admission consideration in the following academic year.
The Human Services Foundation program is the preferred designated preparatory program for admission to career programs in the School of Community Studies.
