Program Description:

Asking questions and telling stories fuels your inquisitive nature.

Become a compelling storyteller with Fanshawe's Journalism – Broadcast program. You'll learn how to capture live news and sports events, conduct interviews, write and edit news stories and broadcast live on Fanshawe's 106.9 The X - the largest news station in the city of London, run entirely by students.

You'll hone your skills at Fanshawe's Broadcast Centre—Canada's first-ever CRTC-licensed college radio station and the country's premier broadcasting educational tool.

And you'll get hands-on experience as a content producer for www.1069theX.com creating stories and video and connecting through social media professionally @XFMNews.

Our faculty know the broadcast radio and journalism industry inside-out and will share their real-world experience with you.

With our program, you'll graduate with the training you need to make an impact in the highly competitive journalism field.

Advantages:
Journalism - Broadcast students learn skills to develop a career as a Broadcast Journalist in electronic media, radio, television and webmedia.  Develop story telling skills as a reporter using broadcast news gathering equipment, audio and visual, news writing, newscasting, news editing, interviewing, researching, documentary/current affairs production, sportscasting, newsbeats, news management, media law and media ethics. 

Students operate four broadcast properties in Fanshawe College's School of Contemporary Media building, which is equipped with the latest in broadcast facilities. 

The program offers practical, hands-on training with live on-air performances on the College broadcast properties (e.g., Listen live at CIXX-FM, The X 106.9FM www.1069thex.ca, The Falcon at www.thefalcon.ca, CFRL Radio at www.cfrlradio.ca, and the new Stellar Radio, live video and audio at www.stellarradio.ca).

Admission Requirement:

OSSD with courses from the College (C), University (U), 
University/College (M), or Open (O) stream WITH: 
- Any Grade 12 English (C) or (U) 
OR
Academic and Career Entrance Certificate (ACE)
OR
Ontario High School Equivalency Certificate (GED) 
OR 
Mature Applicant with standing in the required course stated above
AND
Completion of a Supplemental Form

The program will prepare students for a career and employment in private and public broadcasting including radio and television news gathering services as Newscasters, On-Air Reporters, News Editors, News Writers, Sportscasters, Researchers, Current Affairs Producers and News Directors. Graduates also find employment with news gathering businesses.
