Program Description:
It's very rare that leaders are born. Most of them are the product of real-life experience in combination with highly specialized technical and interpersonal skills. If you've already gained valuable experience building your career in the emergency services, but are now ready to take your leadership skills to their highest level, the Public Safety Leadership program will give you the tools needed to satisfy your ambition.
The program's blended delivery (combining weekend college and online) is ideal for working professionals. And after less than 12 months, you'll be one step closer to becoming a leader in your emergency services field.
The goal of this one-year Certificate program is to equip you with the tools necessary to advance in your current place of employment or in other emergency services related environments. Your new role when you graduate may include but is not limited to sergeant, staff sergeant, inspector, chief, captain, charge nurse, nurse coordinator, coach officer, EMS superintendent, supervisor and manager of civilian personnel.

Fanshawe's Public Safety Leadership program is geared toward individuals currently working in industries including policing, fire, EMS and corrections.
Advantages:
The Public Safety Leadership program is a one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate. This program is designed to provide emergency services professionals with opportunities to develop, or further enhance, their leadership competencies. This graduate certificate builds on previously obtained emergency services related academics and vocational experience. Professionals working in public service sectors such as EMS, police and fire who are currently in, or are readying for, a leadership role within their service are appropriate candidates for this program.
The foundational goal of this program is to equip public safety professionals to advance in their current place of employment or in other emergency services related environments. Prospective leadership roles of this graduate program may include, but are not limited to Sergeant, Staff Sergeant, Inspector, Chief, Captain, Charge Nurse, Nurse Co-ordinator, Coach Officer, EMS Superintendent, Supervisor and Manager of Civilian Personnel.
Admission Requirement:
A College Diploma or College Advanced Diploma in a related discipline
OR
University Degree in a related discipline
OR
A combination of relevant education and work experience in a related field as judged by the College to be equivalent to the above
OR
Professional background and experience as judged by the College to be equivalent to the above
AND
Current employment on either a part-time or full-time basis in the public safety field or a related field*
