Program Description:
Managing a successful event of any size requires extensive know-how and planning.
A specialist in event management is required in many industries such as business, associations, hospitality venues, non-profit, amateur and professional sporting events, galas, wedding and social events. A special events planner plays an essential role from concept to delivery, whether it's choosing a perfect venue for someone's special day, or managing vendors and volunteers to deliver a seamless event.
Fanshawe's two-year Special Events Planning program can help you gain all of the skills and experience to prepare you for an exciting career in a fast-paced industry that relies on client satisfaction. The curriculum, designed by industry professionals, will explore current trends and technologies that drive the industry.
You'll have an opportunity to gain hands-on experience planning, marketing, executing and evaluating events. As a student, you'll also visit, collaborate and network with industry professionals working in the city's great state-of-the-art venues, including the London Convention Centre, Budweiser Gardens, The Western Fair District and leading hotels and sports venues.
By the end of the program, you'll be equipped with the knowledge, skill and practical experience to find employment in the event industry. Are you interested in an exciting career in Event Planning? Planning a big or small event requires extensive planning from choosing the venue, reviewing contracts, to the finer details of guest lists, décor, marketing and sponsorship.
Special Events Planning is a two-year diploma program designed for individuals interested in a career in event management. Designed by industry professionals, students will be exposed to the vast types of special events, from social events, corporate meetings, festivals, conventions and large sporting events. Students will develop essential event management skills such as planning, assessment, communication, critical thinking.
This program will explore current trends and technologies in the event industry, including; event trends, décor, software applications, food and beverage, logistics, environmental, risk management and business trends. Students will gain hands-on experience in planning, marketing and executing events.
Students will be provided opportunity to explore their area of interest including: corporate events, social events and sporting events. Students will also have the opportunity to explore and tour national and/or international event destinations.
Fanshawe College is geographically positioned to expose students to the extensive global event management industry, as London is home to a state of the art Convention Centre, Budweiser Gardens, The Western Fair District, international hotel brands, and the host of many local and international sport events. Students will visit these venues, network with industry professionals and gain hands-on experience in the event planning industry.
The Special Events Planning Program is a great stepping stone for other Hospitality programs, including graduate diplomas and degrees.
Admission Requirement:
OSSD with courses from the College (C), University (U), University/College (M), or Open (O) stream WITH:
- Any Grade 12 English (C) or (U)
- Any Grade 11 Mathematics* (C), (U), or (M)
OR
Academic and Career Entrance Certificate (ACE)
OR
Ontario High School Equivalency Certificate (GED) AND:
- Any Grade 11 Mathematics* (C), (U), or (M)
OR
Mature Applicant with standing in the required courses stated above
Note: *Applicants who lack the required Mathematics may still gain eligibility for admission by completing appropriate prior upgrading.
