Program Description:
The Environmental Technology (Co-op) program prepares you to launch a career in the environmental technology field, with the added benefit of work experience.
This advanced diploma program provides you with theoretical and practical knowledge for success in the growing field of environmental technology. Courses in this program cover the three foundational disciplines of biology, chemistry and civil engineering, teaching you to understand and manage complex environmental problems. Courses also provide you with hands-on experience using technology and equipment for water and soil quality analysis, ecological field sampling, analytical chemistry, hazardous material management, surveying, municipal engineering, AutoCAD drawing and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping.
Advantages:
You may partake in local conservation and restoration activities, which will give you an idea of what it is like to work in the field.
Upon program completion, you may be eligible to apply credits towards university degrees.
Once you successfully finish your semester four courses, you can write the Ontario Ministry of the Environment Operator-in-Training (OIT) and Water Quality Analyst (WQA) exams.
The Biotechnology, Environmental Technology and Food Science Technology programs share a common first semester, which provides the flexibility to transfer between programs before starting the second semester.
Admission Requirement:
Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, or mature student status (19 years or older)
English Grade 12 C or U, or equivalent (minimum grade required) or take the Centennial College English Skills Assessment for Admission
Mathematics Grade 11 M or U, or 12 C or U, or equivalent (minimum grade required) or take a Centennial College Engineering Math Skills Assessment for Admission
