Program Description:

Fill the need for enhanced mental health support in your community with our new Honours Bachelor of Community Mental Health (BCMH) degree. Seneca is the first college in the province to offer this highly specialized degree in the growing field of community mental health. You'll graduate with the expertise required to make a meaningful contribution to the well-being of individuals, families and groups in your community.

In this cross-disciplinary degree you’ll focus on theoretical interventions based on the social determinants of health. Your curriculum will encourage you to think analytically and conceptually, challenge the status quo, identify problems, create solutions and engage others to support community mental health needs with the vision of creating a community where everyone can thrive. You'll gain a foundation of knowledge in social determinants and explore courses in health science, trauma informed practice, psychology and social work from both a practical and theoretical standpoint. You'll critically analyze subjects in community health and wellness, emotional and mental health of individuals, families and communities and the protection and promotion of the health of individuals and communities. You'll also develop the necessary real-world skills to make a difference in community mental health by assessing community needs, planning, educating, and administering recovery-oriented support services.

 

Admission Requirements:

Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent including six Grade 12 (U) or (M) courses with a minimum overall average of 65%, or a mature applicant (21 years or older and has been out of high school for a minimum of two years). Mature applicants should disclose all previous postsecondary transcripts which may be used for admission decisions.

  • English:      Grade 12 ENG 4 (U)

Applicants must meet Seneca English Proficiency requirements for degree programs.

Students must apply for, and receive a clear vulnerable sector police check before field placement.
