Program description:

Laurier’s Film Studies program is considered one of the top film programs in Canada. New for 2016 is our partnership with the Vancouver Film School, which provides students a pathway to combine their academic study of film with hands-on training in film production, writing, or acting.

Students will also have the opportunity to add our Film Production Option to their degree. This new option is designed for students who seek to combine a foundational knowledge of Film Studies with a practical understanding of the techniques of video and film production — from script to screen — to prepare for careers in film, TV, or web series production or advertising and journalism. The option includes courses in film practice (e.g., Intro to Video Editing) and on the film industry (e.g., Business of Film, Screenwriting).

Advantage:

·           We offer a wide-range of courses from film history, national cinemas, theory, and genre to industry courses on the Business of Film and Film Fandom to film practice courses in Video Editing and Screenwriting.

·           The new Film Production Option is designed for students who seek to combine a foundational knowledge of Film Studies with a practical understanding of the techniques of video and film production, from script to screen.

·           Our exciting new partnership with the Vancouver Film School means that Film Studies students can fast-track their education, completing the Honours BA in Film Studies at Laurier and their certificate in Film Production, Writing for Film and Television, or Acting for Film and TV at The Vancouver Film School in only four years (instead of five).

·           Ongoing community engagement, including partnerships with Kitchener-Waterloo’s Multicultural Cinema Club and the Grand River Film Festival.

·           Two undergraduate film clubs: WLU Film Society (for those who love to watch films); and the Golden Hawks Film Club (for those who love to make them).
