Program description:

Gender is a central way in which humans understand themselves and organize their relations across the globe. At Laurier, we have designed a program that stresses the need for better understandings of the key role that gender plays in our lives, including how it is linked to other categories such as class, race, ethnicity, nationality, sexuality, age, ability and indigeneity. Women and Gender Studies courses go beyond offering a range of skills for analyzing the world: we aim to find ways of changing it. Social justice and equity issues are emphasized.

Through an interdisciplinary approach to knowledge and a variety of individual, collaborative, oral and written projects, we foster creative thinking. Many of our students tell us they value the opportunities we provide to discuss and make sense of their everyday lives and experiences.
