Program Description:

Radio isn't what it used to be. Of course, turning the radio dial will never go out of style, but with the emergence of online streaming and podcasts, a career in the radio business has never been more dynamic. If you're looking to turn your creative and communication skills into an exciting and constantly evolving career, the Broadcasting – Radio program will help you tune into your full potential.

You'll be trained in this highly concentrated, hands-on program for careers in radio broadcasting and emerging broadcast media. You'll program and operate four radio stations: The Falcon, CFRL Radio, Stellar Radio and CIXXFM - 106.9 The X — Canada's first teaching radio station equipped with the latest digital control room and production equipment. You'll learn about on-air performance, creative writing, audition production, sales/marketing/promotions, broadcast administration/traffic, web content development, engineering and music and programming. You'll learn in a live environment while performing on-air and behind-the-scenes job functions identical to those in the live broadcast industry.

The Broadcasting - Radio program is a highly concentrated hands-on approach to training students for careers in radio broadcasting and emerging broadcast media.  Students operate four broadcast properties in Fanshawe College's School of Contemporary Media building, which is equipped with the latest in broadcast technology.  CIXX-FM (106.9) is Canada's first licensed instructional radio station at full power FM utilizing the latest digital control rooms and production equipment. Areas of study include: On-Air Performance, Creative Writing, Audio and Commercial Production, Sales/Marketing/Promotions, Music and Programming and Web and Social Media content development.  Listen live to students perform on 106.9 CIXX-FM, The X at www.1069thex.com, The Falcon at www.thefalcon.ca, CFRL Radio at www.cfrlradio.ca, and Stellar Radio, live video and audio at livestream.com/stellar_radio.  Broadcasting - Radio students learn in a live on-air environment while performing on-air and various job functions identical to those in the Broadcast industry.


Admission Requirement:

OSSD with courses from the College (C), University (U),
University/College (M), or Open (O) stream WITH:
- Any Grade 12 English (C) or (U)
OR
Academic and Career Entrance Certificate (ACE)
OR
Ontario High School Equivalency Certificate (GED)
OR
Mature Applicant with standing in the required course stated above

Career

The graduates enter private and public broadcasting as on-air personalities, announcers, radio programmers, creative writers, producers, commercial marketing and sales and promotions with opportunities across Canada and the world. Radio is the prime employer; however, TV-Film-Web and other media require personnel with the talents and skills possessed by Broadcasting - Radio graduates.
