Program Description:

Build on your Business-Accounting Diploma with the Fanshawe Business Administration – Accounting Advanced Diploma program. You'll broaden your knowledge in the areas of financial and managerial accounting, taxation, financial and strategic management. You'll engage in case-studies, challenging your critical thinking skills and learning how to make better business decisions. Move beyond the basics, and into areas of auditing, financial management and controllership, cost and managerial accounting, and strategic policy and planning. Available in a traditional in class format with September admission.

You can apply for the opportunity to further develop your accounting consulting skills, with the option of substituting two courses for the intensive community consultancy program, working with real business live clients.

There are options to transfer to the Honours Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) degree at Fanshawe. Further details about pathways are available here. You can also be eligible to complete a degree program at many other post-secondary institutions or complement your advanced diploma with a graduate certificate offered at Fanshawe College.

 

Advantages:

Business Administration - Accounting is a three-year Ontario College Advanced Diploma program (laptop required).  Building on the Business - Accounting diploma, the program curriculum covers advanced topics in accounting with courses in auditing, corporate finance, cost and managerial accounting, and strategic policy and planning. The program is mapped to the CPA's Advanced Certificate in Accounting and Finance (ACAF).  Upon graduation from the diploma, students will have transferrable credits for the ACAF.  A case-based approach is used across the curriculum to expose students to real-life scenarios to develop critical thinking skills.  Many employment opportunities are available in industry, public accounting, and government where graduates will work in a variety of roles.

 

Admission Requirement:

Business - Accounting Ontario College Diploma from Fanshawe College with a minimum overall average of 'C+' (2.5 cumulative GPA) and a 'B' in ACCT-3036, ACCT-3050, ACCT-3022, FINA-3043, FINA-3044 and MATH-1045 
OR
An equivalent qualification from another institution as judged by the College with a minimum overall average of 'C+' (2.5 cumulative GPA) and a 'B' in courses that are equivalent to the courses listed above 
OR
A combination of relevant education and work experience in a related field as judged by the College to be equivalent to the above

Career

Graduates of the Business Administration - Accounting program are prepared to enter the accounting field in the public sector, the private sector (e.g., manufacturing, service industries and public accounting) as well as the not-for-profit sector.  Graduates are suited to a variety of junior-level and intermediate-level positions, including junior accountant, intermediate accountant, accounting specialist, cost accountant, project accountant, assistant controller, accounts payable and receivable supervisor and tax accountant.
