Program Description:

Emergencies happen everyday, and everywhere. Their responses require a dynamic and unique set of skills. Lives hang in the balance. Safety is the bottom-line. If an exciting and extraordinary career is what you're looking for, and if you want to contribute to society in a meaningful way, the Emergency Management program will give you the opportunity to be the best you can be.

You'll begin immediately learning how to handle disaster preparedness, and how to coordination real emergencies and deal with catastrophes. You'll tackle risk assessment theory, terrorism, mitigation/prevention, response and recovery techniques. These skills are unique, sophisticated and invaluable. And you'll have earned them all. You'll also have the flexibility to learn these skills in a mixture of online and in-class learning, tailored to your schedule and your needs.

When you graduate, your career will be as diverse as your specialized skills. Work within the business/industry and public sectors in positions relating to emergency management planning and liaising with community partners. Your work will be behind the scenes, ensuring lives are saved, property protected.

At the end of the day, your career will be a defining part of who you are. Manage your future today.

This program is delivered in a blended in-class/online delivery format. It is suitable for students who can commit one day per week in-class and who are also self-motivated to complete the extensive on-line learning that is required.

Advantages:

The 24-week graduate certificate program in Emergency Management (EM) prepares graduates for employment in the public or private sector as a leader or member of a team engaged in activities in the area of emergency and disaster management.

This program begins in September and is delivered in a modular format, with six four-week modules comprised of in-class interaction one day per week, complemented by self-directed on-line course work for each module. The six modules proceed sequentially. Given the blended in-class/on-line delivery format, the program is ideally suited to employed students who can commit one day per week in-class and who are also self-motivated to complete the extensive on-line learning that is required.

The program reflects the work in the emergency management field that is performed on a regular basis within the framework of appropriate emergency management legislation. This program will equip students with the necessary skills to address key areas of emergency management from disaster preparedness, coordination and management of emergency events escalating through to catastrophes, to hazards, risk assessment, terrorism, mitigation/prevention, preparedness, response and recovery.
