Program Description:
No doubt, the role of a Paramedic is one of the most rewarding and challenging careers around. When lives are at stake, you're the one who takes charge. It's also a career that demands a highly specialized and dynamic set of skills. If you're excited about being on the front line of medical care, the Paramedic program will give you the skills necessary to begin an adventurous and highly valued career.
The program is specially designed to give you the best combination of an in-class and hands-on Paramedic education. Your classroom instruction will work alongside simulated training using Fanshawe's own ambulance and involvement with local emergency service providers. Plus, you'll participate in a full-time internship with a practicing Paramedic in the final semester. You'll dig deep into the study of anatomy, crisis prevention, patient care, and ambulance operations. You'll also have the opportunity to develop strategies to help promote your personal health and well-being in a career that is physically and mentally challenging.
When you graduate, you'll be eligible to write the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care Advanced Emergency Medical Assistant exam, and be ready to work as a Paramedic in emergency response service, industrial first aid and medical departments.
Fanshawe's Paramedic program is also accredited by the Canadian Medical Association and is recognized as a Canadian Forces accredited program.

Graduates of this program will have demonstrated the ability to integrate complex knowledge, skills, and attitudes in a variety of patient-related situations and practice settings. Since the profession is recognized as having a strong physical basis and as having a high-stress component, graduates will have developed plans to promote their personal health and well-being.
Graduates of this program are eligible to write the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care Advanced Emergency Medical Care Assistant (AEMCA) exam. Graduates of this program are also eligible for employment as a Paramedic in the province of Ontario.
The Paramedic program at Fanshawe College meets all Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development (MAESD) program standards and is also accredited by the Canadian Medical Association recognized as a Canadian Forces accredited program.
Admission Requirement:
OSSD with courses from the College (C), University (U),
University/College (M), or Open (O) stream WITH:
- Any Grade 12 English (C) or (U)
- Mathematics ONE OF:
- Grade 11 Mathematics (U) or (M)
- Grade 12 Mathematics (C) or (U)
- Grade 11 or Grade 12 Biology (C) or (U)
- Grade 11 or Grade 12 Chemistry (C) or (U)
(Note: minimum final grade required for each course is 65)
OR
Academic and Career Entrance Certificate (ACE) WITH:
- Communications
- Core Mathematics
- Biology
- Chemistry

Pre-Health Sciences Pathway to Advanced Diplomas and Degrees Ontario College Certificate*
(Note: minimum final average required is 3.0 GPA) AND:
- minimum final grade of 'C+' or 65 in the required courses stated above

Ontario High School Equivalency Certificate (GED) WITH:
- The combined Language Arts - Reading AND Language Arts - Writing test results having a minimum average Standard Score of 520 AND:

Career
Successful completion of the program qualifies the graduate to write the Ontario Advanced Emergency Medical Care Assistant (AEMCA) examination. Provincial AEMCA Certification is required for employment as a Paramedic in Ontario. Opportunities for graduates may also be found in industrial first-aid/medical departments, emergency services for major recreation and sports facilities and other emergency response services.
