Program Description:

The Honours Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies is also known as the Accelerated Bachelor’s Degree, and is an innovative degree that provides you with the liberal arts education to complement your diploma and advance your career prospects. The degree is customized and mapped out in consultation with you. You will receive transfer credit for your professional program courses and gain direct entry into the degree. You’ll take liberal arts courses to complete your degree credential in 2 to 2.5 years, and have an opportunity to gain practical experience through the work term – allowing you to build a network of contacts ahead of graduation.

Turn your 2 year or 3 year diploma from a recognized College into a degree at Seneca. If you hold a 2 year diploma, you will be granted transfer credits for 1.5 years of study towards the degree. If you hold a 3 year advanced diploma, you will be granted transfer credits for 2 years of study towards the degree. Students with additional postsecondary credits may be entitled to additional transfer credits.

Admission Requirements:

Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent including six Grade 12 (U) or (M) courses with a minimum overall average of 65%, or a mature applicant (21 years or older and has been out of high school for a minimum of two years). Mature applicants should disclose all previous postsecondary transcripts which may be used for admission decisions.

Required courses - minimum final grade of 65% in each:

·         English: Grade 12 ENG 4 (U)

·         Mathematics: any Grade 12 (U)

Applicants must meet Seneca English Proficiency requirements for degree programs.

Applicants with a two or three-year college diploma in any discipline may apply for the Degree Completion option.

Career:

The Honours Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies (INS) program could be your path to a position in a competitive workforce or graduate level postsecondary education. As a graduate of the INS degree program, you’ll be able to work within a specialized professional field while bringing in experience and transferable skills acquired from interdisciplinary study. The degree will allow students who have completed a college diploma program to fulfill the requirements of a degree program in two or two and a half years.

It is anticipated that graduates will find employment in their professional field or with employers who look for degree graduates, for example, in the following:

·         community-based not-for-profit organizations

·         education (school boards and universities)

·         government (municipal, provincial, federal)

·         financial services (banks, insurance companies)

·         conservation authorities

·         police forces

·         retail
