History

In 1951, The Department of Education creates the Provincial Institute of Trades and transfers to it, from the Ryerson Institute of Technology, all the apprenticeship training in designated trades offered through the Department of Labour. George Brown College opened its doors in 1968, welcoming just over 2,000 students. In addition to programs in construction, early childhood education, dental services and the culinary arts – subjects we continue to teach – we once offered programs that might not be quite as relevant today, like sign writing or watchmaking. Believe it or not, we even prepared students for careers at sea through a marine engineering program.

Credentials Categories:

English for Academic Purpose: is a full- time program divided into 9 levels of 8 weeks each. Your language skills are assessed by the college and you begin at the level that is right for you. Most students study for 6-10 months. The program prepares you for further academic study at the college.

Diploma/ Certificate programs: are one, two or three academic years in length. Programs have start dates in September, January and/ or May

Postgraduate Programs: are offered for students who have already graduated from a university or college program. These are highly specialized 8 or 12 month programs designed to give graduates advanced skills in a specific professional field

Degree Programs: are offered in Financial Services, Hospitality, Construction Management, Early Childhood Development, Behaviour Analysis, and Interpretation. These are four- year bachelor degree programs, combining theoretical learning with opportunities for filed education.

University Transfer: A george Brown College diploma is a passport to further education at may Canadian and foreign universities.

Program Description:

The International Fashion Management program is a one-year graduate certificate program* designed for the student or industry professional with a serious interest in the international apparel business.

The program provides you with the skills essential to succeed in the international apparel business. As new communication technologies make the world a smaller place, more possibilities for the fashion industry emerge on an international scale, along with many related career opportunities.

You are exposed to world trade through the study of economic, legal and cultural factors that affect international trade policies. Specifically, the focus of study is on the understanding of business practices, global marketing, logistics and supply chain management as they relate to the fashion industry worldwide. The program content combines analytical and management skills, along with knowledge of world culture and understanding of the global economy, to enable success in the international apparel industry.

Admission Requirement:

Applicants are selected on the basis of their academic achievement, including the required courses, and any other selection criteria outlined below.

Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in business or fashion with a minimum grade point average of 2.7

OR

Diploma or Bachelor's degree with three years of directly related career experience (resume required)
Preference will be given to applicants who have some academic background in economics, marketing and logistics.

Please note:

Applicants without a background in Fashion or Business may be required to take an introductory course in these subjects as a condition of acceptance.

Applicants without a fashion background will be required to take FASH1082 World of Fashion in semester 1. If this is a requirement, you will be advised of this in your OFFER letter.
Applicants without a business background will be advised to take a preparatory business course prior to start of class. Applicants who are recommended to take this course will be contacted by the Fashion department.

English Proficiency

Applicants with international transcripts where English proficiency results are not supplied must test at the College level in the George Brown College English assessment to be considered.

International Student Scholarships and Bursaries

In partnership with Scotiabank, George Brown College is pealsed to provide merit- based entry scholarships for international students from designated developing economies. Three awards of $5000 each will be applied as a second semester tuition fee credit to eligible newly admitted students for George Brown College full- time post- secondary programs( diploma, degree,rgraduate certificate)

Admission Requirements

In order to be admitted into the program of your choice you must:

Have graduated from senior secondary school or equivalent( those applying for a postgraduate program must have graduated from a university or college)

Be 18 years of age or older at the time of registration

Pay the non- refundable $95 application fee

Provide proof of English proficiency, if English is not the first language in your country.

Study Permit/ Temporary resident visa/ Work Permits

If you want to study in Canada for more than 6 months you must apply for a study permit. Study permit are not issued from within Canada. You must apply to immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada(IRCC) which is located in your nearest canadian Embassy, high Commision or Consulate. Official information on requirements oversears or from the IRCC website at cic.gc.ca. A temporary resident Visa( visitor visa) is sufficient if you want to study for 6 months or less.
