Program Description:
Linguistics constitutes the systematic study of natural language, its formal structures, and social function.
Linguistics & Language Studies examines the building blocks of languages, how they develop over time, how people learn languages, how regional accents differ and more. Why Linguistics at Glendon? Our professors offer an expanse of expertise in the study of sound properties, word patterns, meaning, language evolution, and the relationship between language and social factors.
Hands-on opportunities include collaborating with Linguistics professors as a research assistant, language teaching practicums in Cuban classrooms with our D-TEIL (Discipline of Teaching English as an International Language) Certificate or working with the Ojibwa community of Toronto. Many grads have found successful careers in speech-language pathology, conference interpreting, foreign language instruction, technical writing and more.
