Program description:

In this program, you’ll receive broad and rich training in the field of geography, from the cultural and social dimensions of how we use the world, to issues of population change, mobility, and how human behaviour affects the environment.

As a Geography student, you’ll explore processes of urbanization, transportation and energy use; trends in human developments and sustainability; and patterns of migration and the experience of immigrants. You’ll receive a well-rounded education that allows you to think confidently and systematically about issues across the spectrum of the social and natural sciences, and to pursue careers and higher training where the ability to understand complex local and global issues is critical.

Advantage:

·           First-year Geography courses combine classroom learning with hands-on tutorials and lab meetings, so that you can develop key research and analytical skills in small-group settings.

·           Upper-year students participate in field courses where they can design and carry out original research projects.

·           Fourth-year students have the option of doing an undergraduate thesis project to refine their research skills, or to participate in field courses in places such as Costa Rica, The Canadian Rockies, and Yukon.

·           Students learn quantitative and qualitative research skills that they can apply to a range of careers and graduate research directions.

·           You’ll learn to use computerized geographic information systems, a skill that is highly desired by private and public sector employers.
