It is well known that resumes and cover letters are used to apply for jobs. I believe that many students who are or are looking for a job will have questions about writing resumes and cover letters. Applicants must pass the threshold of resume to get an interview. In addition, many companies now apply online, so sometimes the screening will be determined by the system, rather than through human judgment. This may cause some potential applicants to be missed.

Many people know that they need to submit a resume when they apply for a job, but they forget that a cover letter sometimes needs to be submitted or some people simply don't know what this is. E-Canada School will provide the following suggestion for the students to write resumes and cover letters.

Resume

This is a document used to introduce personal background, skills, achievements, learning and work experience, often used to find a job. Some students may not know much about the format. Here we will do some simple explanations. First, the resume needs to include education, experience and related skills. There are two general resumes. The first is chronological (chronological) resume, and the other is functional (functional) resume. The circumstances of each person vary from person to person. The following is a sample of these two different resumes.

Functional resume

After comparison, we can find that the information filled in the two titles are the same, here are personal information such as name, phone, address and email. After writing your personal information, briefly introduce the job position or purpose you want to find in one or two sentences. The educational background includes the name of the school, what major to study, which year to graduate, and some related courses. In addition to the educational background, experience is also very important.

Here, chronological resume uses personal work experience first and then relevant skills. On the other hand, in the functional resume, the relevant skills are written first and then the job. The difference here is that chronological is generally used by those with a lot of relevant professional work experience. Conversely, functional resumes are based on skills and are more suitable for students who have just graduated. They have a large time gap in employment and those who are changing careers. In addition to the necessary information, students can also fill in voluntary activities, awards and honors, and major-related activities.

In addition, the format required for writing a resume is critical, such as the size and key points of the font. The resume should be organized, neat, clear and consistent in format. Use the title to organize the information in the resume as shown in Education, Experience, Skills, etc. Finally, remember to use keywords. For example, if you want to find a job that requires communication skills, you must write communication on your resume. Now many resumes posted online will be screened by the system, so if you want to be seen by the recruitment manager Match the requirements of the posted position as much as possible. And the system will find the same keywords in the resume as in the job posting.

Cover letter

The cover letter is a one-page document that is sent to the applied job together with the resume. This is an explanation to the employer why you are the best person for the position and how your skills and expertise can add value to the company. Cover letter can be used as an introduction to get attention and is a good way to express interest in work and company. In addition to these, the cover letter can also be used to clarify some controversial history in the work experience.

The length of the cover letter is only one page, the format, the words are appropriate, and there are no grammar or spelling errors. The general cover letter is divided into three sections, introduction, body, and conclusion. The contents in the cover include confirming the position you are looking for and how to know it. Explain why choose you and why you choose this company. Highlight past work-related achievements. Emphasize other relevant skills. Contact information and request for an interview.

Here you need to avoid some common mistakes in writing a cover letter, such as: filling in the company ’s name and information incorrectly, inconsistent skills and job requirements, clichés, copying the words and sentences, grammar and spelling errors in the sample. After you finish writing, you need to recheck it. Some online resumes do not require a cover letter but try to upload the cover letter to the Internet as well, because this can increase the employer's understanding of you. Please refer to the following cover letter template.
