The impacts of COVID-19 have had an effect on IRCC's operations and our ability to respond to and process applications. IRCC are therefore unable to provide processing timelines for specific applications at this time. IRCC's current focus is on priority applications such as Canadians attempting to return to the country, vulnerable populations, and people who perform or support essential services, and they are trying to process those as quickly as possible.

This means that domestic visas, work permits, tourist visa extensions, post-graduation work permit PGWP, and overseas study visa applications are not current IRCC priority applications.

If you have already submitted these applications, you must be mentally prepared, and the processing time is likely to exceed the average processing time shown on the official website.

However, if students, workers, and passengers in Canada who have submitted an extension application before the visa expiration date, their temporary residence permit period will be extended by law until the IRCC issues the application result. While waiting for the application results, these people will be considered to have an Implied Status. Even if their visa has expired, they can still stay in Canada legally in their original status and wait for the result of the application.

In addition, the IRCC official website stated that Canada's enquiry phone has been reopened, but due to the continuing influence of COVID-19, few agents are available to answer calls. Calls are answered from Monday to Friday, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. EST, to the extent possible.
